WHAT IS A DIMPLE?
A dimple is a cheek indentation that emerges when people smile. It is a hereditary trait that results from a small opening in the cheek muscle. Viewed as a sign of beauty, good luck and good fortune by many cultures, dimples are a sought-after feature that can be created with a minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure.
Types of Dimples
Cheek Dimples – This is the most common and known dimple located on the cheeks, it can be found on many areas of the cheek, and some people only have one dimple instead of two. Dimples can add angularity to the face and often, the person who has the procedure is perceived to have lost weight. When consulting with Dr Ranjit, you will discuss the depth and placement of your desired dimple.
Chin Dimple – Often referred to a as a “cleft chin” is a less common dimple on the face, which results from a connection to the underlying jaw structure Since it is a dominant trait, the likelihood of inheriting a chin dimple is high if one parent has it.
Back dimple – This type of dimple has also been referred to as the “dimple of Venus” after the Roman goddess of beauty, is the least known of the three. It is situated in the lower part of the back and is more common in women than men
Can you get facial dimples without surgery? If you were not born with dimples, it is not possible to get dimples that will be long lasting with methods such as facial exercise. Some people have tried to get dimples by having their cheeks pierced instead of a dimpleplasty. Unfortunately, results with piercing can be limited and variable. Many people are uncomfortable with the idea of having a dimple piercing.
Are you a candidate for a dimple surgery? Most healthy people can be candidates for dimpleplasty. During your consultation a review of your medical history and an examination will determine if you are a candidate
THE BENEFITS
THE PROCEDURE
WHAT TO EXPECT
Dimple surgery is an outpatient procedure that is done under local anesthesia, which means you will be awake and conscious throughout the experience. To begin, Dr. Ranjit will mark the precise location of your new dimples and administer a topical anesthetic to numb the area and ensure your comfort.
Once the anesthetic has taken effect (about ten minutes after it was administered), Dr. Ranjit will create small incisions inside your mouth. Through those openings, he will remove a minute amount of muscle and fat to create a tiny hole in your cheek. He will then connect the two sides of the hole with a suture to set your new dimple in place.
Once your dimples have been created, Dr. Ranjit will close your incisions with dissolvable sutures and you will be free to return home immediately.
THE RECOVERY
Dimple surgery is associated with a brief and very straightforward recovery period. Your main priority during this time will be to prevent an infection and keep the surgical site clean. Here is what to expect:
