What Is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty offers a permanent solution for reshaping and improving the outside appearance of your nose. There are many specific reasons to undergo a cosmetic Rhinoplasty, such as straightening a crooked nose, reducing the bump from the side view, refining the shape of the tip of the nose, or making a more slender nose that naturally blends with the overall face.
There may also be functional reasons to undergo Rhinoplasty, such as the need to straighten a deviated nasal septum, expand the internal nasal passages, and address a broken nose due to prior accidents or trauma.
Many patients have a combination of issues that require both external and internal changes to the nose. Selecting a surgeon specialized in facial cosmetic as well as reconstructive procedures and one who is highly experienced in all aspects of nasal surgery will ensure that you receive the proper attention for your specific needs and the best result possible.
How Do I Know If Rhinoplasty Is Right For Me?
If you are bothered by the appearance of your nose, or feel that your nose is not proportional or well matched to the overall facial appearance, then Rhinoplasty surgery may be a safe and excellent option for you. Patients who are eligible for cosmetic surgery must be in good overall health and have completed their phase of facial growth and development. The nasal bones must be fully matured before electing to make cosmetic changes to the nose. In most cases, female patients older than 16 years of age, and male patients older than 17 years of age, may consider Rhinoplasty.
In other cases, nasal surgery is focused strictly on functional issues due to traumatic injuries, nasal surgery may be an option even at younger ages. During your initial personalized consultation, Dr. RANJIT, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, MCh Plastic Surgery (AIIMS Delhi) will explore your concerns and wishes, perform a thorough examination of the nose, and determine the best course of action to achieve your goals. Dr. RANJIT, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, MCh Plastic Surgery (AIIMS Delhi) will also review your medical and surgical history and obtain an X-ray, if indicated, to ensure that you are an optimal candidate for cosmetic surgery.
Rhinoplasty Procedure
Dr. RANJIT, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, MCh Plastic Surgery (AIIMS Delhi) performs Rhinoplasty in a fully accredited medical facility where patients will undergo general anesthesia along with their surgery. As a result, it will be necessary for a friend or family member to take you home and assist you with early recovery. Dr. RANJIT, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, MCh Plastic Surgery (AIIMS Delhi) most commonly performs an “open” rhinoplasty by making a small incision along the skin between the nostrils, known as the columella, as well as incisions hidden inside the nose. This provides access to the nasal cartilages and bones that are reshaped during surgery. The advantage of open-approach rhinoplasty is a high level of predictability and the ability to perform highly precise surgical maneuvers.
Rhinoplasty Recovery & Results
After surgery, you will have a nasal cast over the nose to help keep the new shape.. A soft nasal dressing is placed inside the nose with antimicrobial ointment. The cast is removed one week following your surgery. After surgery, patients are advised to sleep with the head elevated to reduce swelling. Minor nasal drainage for the first few days is normal and can be managed with a gauze pad beneath the nose.
Many patients can return to their daily activities in about one week. While each case is unique, most patients can expect to feel an improvement in breathing about one month after surgery. Following your post-operative care instructions and all follow-up visits with Dr. RANJIT, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, MCh Plastic Surgery (AIIMS Delhi) will help you attain the best results from Rhinoplasty.
Your results are seen immediately once your nasal cast and bandages are removed. Swelling along the nose and especially nasal tip will be evident early after surgery and greatly improves over the next several weeks. It often takes a full year for the result to become fully apparent. Patient feel “restaurant-ready” in approximately two weeksThe tip of the nose takes the longest to heal because it has the thickest skin and retains the most swelling due to the effects of gravity. While results from Rhinoplasty are permanent, your nose will endure very subtle changes as you continue to age
