Patients often sit down in my office at Sculpt Sublime and ask, “Dr Bhosale, which shape should I choose?”
It is a big decision. If you have been searching online, you are likely overwhelmed by conflicting opinions. My job is to make this choice simple. Choosing an implant isn’t just about size; the shape also affects how you feel in your clothes and how you perceive yourself in the mirror.
Let’s break down the real differences between teardrop breast implants and round ones.
A Real-Life Story: Why the Right Choice Matters
To illustrate the significance of this choice, I would like to share a story about a patient I recently saw, Aditi.
Aditi was very slim and had almost no natural breast tissue after breastfeeding her two children. Her initial decision was to choose round boob implants because she wanted to look “glamorous” in Western dresses.
However, during our consultation, we looked at her frame together. A round implant would have created an obvious, sharp edge at the top of her chest. It wouldn’t have looked like a natural part of her body; it would have looked like an object under her skin.
We decided on teardrop breast implants instead. Due to the sloped shape, the transition from her chest to her breasts looked seamless and soft. She got the size she wanted, and the shape made it look like she was born with them.
The Lesson: If Aditi had insisted on round implants without considering her unique body type, she likely would have been unhappy with the “artificial” look and might have needed a second surgery to fix it.
At a Glance: Round vs. Teardrop
Feature | Round Implants | Teardrop Implants |

Feel | Softer and more fluid | Firmer (Form-stable) |
Rotation Risk | None (Symmetrical) | Requires surgical fix if it spins |
Best For | Cleavage, lift, “Sari” fit | Very thin patients, reconstruction |
Cost | Standard | Higher (confirmed during visit) |
Round Implants: For a Youthful Lift
Imagine a soft ball cut in half. That is how a round implant appears. It is the same shape all the way around, providing equal fullness at the top and the bottom of your breast.
Why choose them?
If you want that “push-up bra” look even when you aren’t wearing one, round implants are for you. They create great cleavage and give a perky, youthful lift. We call this “upper pole fullness.”
These are also very low-maintenance. Because round implants are perfectly circular, it doesn’t matter if they spin or rotate slightly inside your body over time; your breast shape will stay exactly the same.
Teardrop Implants: For a Realistic Slope
As we saw with Aditi’s case, teardrop breast implants are often called “anatomical” implants. If you look at a natural breast from the side, it isn’t a perfect circle. It is usually flatter at the top and fuller at the bottom. These implants mimic that exact slope of the breast.
Why choose them?
These are best for women who want the most subtle change possible or those with very little natural tissue. It builds a new breast shape that looks very realistic.
The catch:
Teardrop implants are firmer than round ones because they need to hold their shape. They also must stay in one position. If a teardrop implant rotates or spins, the breast will look odd or shapeless. While I use specific techniques to prevent this, it is a risk we always discuss during your pre-op visit.
The Secret: Round Implants Can Look Natural Too
Here is something most websites won’t tell you: Round implants do not always look “fake.”
If you already have some natural breast tissue, I can place a round implant under the chest muscle. Your own muscle gently presses on the top of the round implant, flattening it out into a slope. You get the safety of a round implant with the beautiful shape of a teardrop
Making the Choice with Dr Bhosale
At Sculpt Sublime, we don’t believe in “one size fits all.” For some, a teardrop is the only way to get a balanced look. For others, a round implant provides the “lift” needed to look great in a Sari or Western evening wear.

Frequently Asked questions
Which one is more expensive, round or teardrop implants?
Generally, teardrop implants are more expensive because they are more complex to manufacture and require greater surgical precision during placement. We will provide a specific quote during your consultation.
Will my breast feel hard after the implant?
Round implants are generally softer. Teardrop implants are firmer to keep their specific “anatomical” shape.
What if I want to breastfeed later?
I place both shapes behind the milk ducts, so they shouldn’t interfere with breastfeeding. For more clarity, you can read more in our post on Implants Under the Muscle.
Which one lasts longer?
Both are designed for longevity, but round implants have a lower “fix-it” rate because you never have to worry about them rotating.
